Ready for EPA 2027
Engineered from a clean sheet with future regulations in mind, the S13 Integrated Powertrain reaches 2027 EPA standards with minimal changes. That means a smoother transition for fleets, technicians, and drivers while keeping the performance, efficiency, and service familiarity customers already know.
What changes for 2027
Very little. Roughly 90% of the powertrain carries over unchanged, preserving service tools, parts familiarity, technician training, and driver resources.
Always looking ahead
The S13 was designed with long-term emissions requirements in mind. Because the core architecture remains intact, fleets can move into the 2027 standard with less disruption and less retraining.
Ready for EPA 2027
Variable Valve Timing, an integrated compression release brake, and a standardized 24V architecture work together with a streamlined emissions system that eliminates EGR hardware and a diesel oxidation catalyst.
2027 S13 integrated highlights
Four core upgrades and design decisions drive the 2027 story: smarter valve control, cleaner electrical architecture, predictive shifting, and a simplified emissions path.
Variable Valve Timing (VVT)
Adapts valve timing to real-time operating conditions for smooth performance and strong power delivery across engine speeds and load conditions.
Electrical architecture
A 24V alternator, starter, and engine controls improve cold-crank performance, starter durability, and battery life while helping reduce component weight.
Transmission Control Module (TCM)
Uses learned driver behavior plus GPS and topography data to optimize shift strategy for fuel economy and road performance.
EGR cross-over tube eliminated
Removing exhaust gas recirculation hardware simplifies the system and can improve combustion efficiency, reliability, and overall performance.
Shift what’s possible
Available in the LT, RH, HX, and HV series, the S13 Integrated combines engine, transmission, and aftertreatment into one coordinated system built for economy, uptime, and long-haul profitability.
Capable of up to 515 hp and 1,850 lb-ft of torque, the S13 Integrated was designed as a complete powertrain, not a collection of separate parts. That tighter integration improves how each system supports the others.
Developed by a global engineering team and validated over more than 4 million miles in varied terrain, it sets a new standard for efficiency, sustainability, and operating economy.
*The International LT with S13 Integrated Powertrain was tested head-to-head using TMC Type IV testing methodology against competitive on-highway aero models with comparable specifications. Testing showed the International LT with S13 Integrated Powertrain to be at least 5% more fuel efficient than those models. The International LT with S13 Integrated Powertrain uses up to 3.5% more DEF per gallon of fuel compared to comparable on-highway aerodynamic models.
S13 engine
A clean-burn engine architecture, dual overhead cam design, and the Dual Stage Aftertreatment System work together to improve fuel efficiency while reducing complexity and service burden.
Delivering superior operating economy
Extensive testing led to a new cylinder and piston head design with maximum cooling properties. Combined with the dual overhead cam layout, it helps reduce fuel consumption while supporting durability.
The engine can operate at low rpm with high torque while delivering up to 515 hp and 1,850 lb-ft of torque, supporting strong real-world efficiency without giving up pulling power.
T14 transmission
The T14 was designed in-house to work in sync with the S13 engine, delivering smoother shifts, broad ratio coverage, and strong performance both loaded and empty.
Stellar performance
Full torque is available at just 900 rpm, while the wide overall gear ratio supports efficiency across different terrain and duty cycles. Drivers also benefit from strong compression release braking on descents.
Making the shift
The fully automated 14-speed overdrive transmission uses an electronically controlled clutch actuator for faster, smoother shifts and avoids consuming air during complicated maneuvers like backing into tight docks.
Dual Stage Aftertreatment System
By removing EGR from regular operation, the engine can focus on power generation while the aftertreatment system handles NOx reduction in a simpler, more serviceable way.
Easy serviceability
The system is designed so each major component can do its own job well, making the overall powertrain simpler to maintain and easier to service.
Next-gen aftertreatment
DEF is dosed in two stages, soot output is reduced, active regens are eliminated, and DPF service intervals are extended.
Efficient combustion cycle
Combustion chamber and exhaust path refinements support better cooling, stronger efficiency, and cleaner operation.
Increased payload and power
Comprehensive engineering and material choices help reduce weight, improve payload capacity, and support better operating economics.
