What is Contamination?

Contamination is anything that doesn’t belong in the fluid. Particulate contaminants are the most common. These include dirt, metals, weld spatter, paint flakes, rag fibers and sealing materials, but can be as small as a few microns. A micron is one millionth of a meter.

Heat, water, air and other fluids also are also contaminants. These combine to break down the oil’s chemical composition, forming harmful oil oxidation and acids.

Particle contamination and oil chemical degradation can lead to premature machine damage. Our expertise will protect your machine by ensuring clean service or repair. We also recommend you join the S•O•S Oil Sampling program, which further analyzes the quality of the oil between interventions.

We remove your oils and put them through dialysis to filter out contamination. Providing the S•O•SSM results are acceptable, the oils are re-injected into your machine, so fluid life is extended and waste is reduced.

Why is Contamination Control Critical?

Contamination Control is a vital process which ensures you get the most out of your components, while reducing the risk of failure and helping improve the environment. Peterson Trucks uses a range of professional processes to ensure there is no contamination of your fluids and components.

IMPROVE COMPONENT PERFORMANCE / EFFICIENCY
Your components, such as pumps and valves, maintain their high performance levels for longer periods. Also, your peak power levels stay high throughout your components increased life, allowing them to take on the toughest jobs with maximum efficiency.

EXTENDED COMPONENT LIFE
Contamination Control ensures that fluids are cleaned each time your components are serviced. This gives major components a longer life, particularly when high levels of fluid cleanliness are maintained, and results in lower owning and operating costs.

REDUCED DOWNTIME
Parts stay working longer so you have less downtime and your components spend more time earning you money.

EXTENDED SERVICE INTERVALS
Cleaner oil extends component life and allows your service intervals to be increased, helping reduce owning and operating costs still further. However, an S•O•SSM program is essential to confirm the continuing high quality of your oil and achieve maximum usage.

How is It Done?

THE PETERSON TRUCKS CONTAMINATION CONTROL PROCESS:

  • Parts remain in the original packaging until you purchase them
  • Filter boxes remain clean and unopened
  • O-rings are kept in plastic bags in and closed drawers
  • Fluid carrying hoses are stored with end caps in place
  • All parts are kept clean and delivered to you in that manner
  • Parts storage bins are clean and well organized
  • Cores are drained of all fluids and all openings are capped or otherwise protected
  • Components such as cranks, cylinder heads, hydraulic pumps, etc., are returned in original shipping boxes
